SimplyTweet - The perfect Posterous iPhone companion!

Posterous spotlight on SimplyTweet: Twitter client for the iPhone has great Posterous integration - The Official Posterous Posterous
http://blog.posterous.com/posterous-spotlight-on-simplytweet-twitter-cl

SimplyTweet was one of the first Twitter clients to add image support for Posterous. But they didn't stop there. SimplyTweet took things to the next level to make the Posterous experience great.

Don't be limited to 140 characters! SimplyTweet supports long tweets. The entire text of your tweet will be posted on Posterous, and your tweet will include a post.ly url
Tags! SimplyTweet automatically turns hash tags into Posterous tags on your post
SimplyTweet supports multiple photos to Posterous. Attach several images and get an image gallery on your Posterous site.
If you click on a post.ly link in SimplyTweet, you get an image viewer of any photos in that post.
SimplyTweet supports push notifications! Get notified of @replies and DMs instantly!

(via Instapaper)

- SimplyTweet looks like the perfect Posterous companion on the iPhone! I must check this out! http://motionobj.com/simplytweet/

It seems that the Only thing missing from Tweetie is landscape mode. But it has a lot more features than Tweetie! Cool.

By the way, I bought it and I won't regret it :) Thank you Posterous for the tip!

SimplyTweet even has a Group feature called "Saved View"! That nails it. SimplyTweet is better than Mighty Tweetie :)

Still the best feature is the autoposting to Posterous when the Tweet is longer than 140 char :)

....and it already has landscape mode in the compose window! I found that now!

I can't believe that not more users switch to the amazing iPhone Twitter app - SimplyTweet. Think about it, you can add a link, text quotes and in the coming version 2.2 even a picture from the original post you are tweeting about, and then post the whole thing both as a Tweet on Twitter and as a full blog post on your Posterous blog! Then your visitors on your Posterous blog can @reply you as a comment directly from the blog! Isn't that cool enough to switch from your Twitter app?

I will officially switch from an active user on friendfeed to the combination Twitter+SimplyTweet+Posterous when SimplyTweet releases version 2.2. Until then I will both use this combination and friendfeed.

I think I may stop using a desktop Twitter client & just use @simplytweet. No need to manage 2 sets of groups, and ST kicks Tweetie for Mac's but in terms of feature set!

Yeah, I'm using SimplyTweet instead of PeopleBrowsr on my desktop more & more, so maybe I will do the same :) My groups on SimplyTweet is starting to work really great for monitoring twitter.

Plus it helps you to detach from the firehose when you need to focus on other things on your computer. ;)

It's certainly a fantastic app and I love it (v2.5) already, but - and this might be a dumb question - how the hell do you set ST up to post to your Posterous blog? Is there secret documentation somewhere? I'm sure I'm not alone in hoping for better documentation for what is a pretty sophisticated app.

Right now, I see nothing in the settings beyond choosing Posterous as the pic and video upload service, the option to turn on sending long Tweets to Posterous, and a field headed Posterous Tag. All obvious enough so far, but how does ST know where your Posterous blog is? Please enlighten me, kind people :-)

@japanized It's automatic. You just need to write a tweet longer than 140 characters or add a photo or other media to it. Oh, and make sure that "Long Tweets / Posterous" is set to ON, otherwise it'll just post tweets with media to Posterous.

Thanks Grey, that makes a degree of sense. What I'd really like to see is all tweets, regardless of length, going to Posterous as an option. I wonder if that has been considered or if there's any demand?

I suppose the idea is short stuff can hang out on Twitter and longer content can find a proper home on Posterous, but it would be nice to be able to choose from ST.

@japanized Yeah, I've wondered about that now and then, too. One workaround, I suppose, would be to add an image to all your tweets that you want to come here, too. It could be a context specific image or some generic image (a photo of you? a logo?) just to trigger the posting here.

Or I wonder if just adding a bunch of blank spaces to the end of your tweet would be enough..... Dunno.

Interesting ideas... Perhaps I'll mention it to the ST developer to see what he thinks...

@simplygrey @japanized blankspaces after the tweet doesn't work, I've tried :) It would be cool though with an option that every tweet could be posted to Posterous but I guess Posterous is no content aggregator like friendfeed or Tumblr. Its more a service for easy blogging via email and then spread it out to all the services. Like ping.fm for blogging! :)

Yeah -- I tried various things and also had no success. It's a shame, as I love both ST and Posterous, so would have linked to use them for posting and hosting everything, respectively. Maybe soon our wishes will be granted...

Yeah, one thing I've been doing a bit of is using the Twitter e-mail address to post to Posterous and Twitter. That way I can put the basic tweet text as the post title (subject line) and add a few more thoughts to the body of the post.

But I'd still like to see a more full-featured Posterous app for the iPhone, i.e. one that you can use both to post to Posterous (selecting which services to auto-post to!!) and to read the content of others. I find Safari is just too slow and buggy to be a decent solution for me, and PicPosterous is still too awkward and limited.

Dec 16, 2009
Grey -- you're right. If PicPosterous (or an entirely new app) was developed on those lines, they could easily sell it as The One Solution to Rule Them All...

@simplygrey I post Posterous via mail and selects which services to post by combining them for example like this: twitter+flickr@posterous.com to post to Posterous, Twitter and Flickr only.

Me too. I set up a Posterous contact in Address Book with various common combinations in the email fields. Although Twitter is the one I use the most, because then my tweets go to Facebook and FriendFeed, which covers pretty much all of my various followers. Unless there are photos, then those go to flickr and Picasa, too.

Oh, same here but it would be just ideal to be able to retweet, reply and post normally within the suberb ST interface but for it all to also hit my Posterous too. Kinda like a scrapbook for the whole microblog experience...

Yes I write @replies here on Posterous that gets automatically posted to Twitter. That way I can have a discussion on Twitter via Posterous :)
Dec 16, 2009
I considered that, but decided not to - are you seeing any value in having this on Twitter too?

And, on the subject of comments, it's interesting to note how civilised they are on Posterous. Simply because they're tied to your own Posterous identity, perhaps? It's a refreshing change from most of the intarwebs :-)

Well its a great way to drive more people to a discussion. And yes there is not much Spam on Posterous but you can login anonymous and comment and they don't have any spam protection what I know of. I've got quite a few spam on this blog actually. The only way todo is to delete it.
Dec 16, 2009
Ah.... I had high hopes there :-)

I don't always post comments to Twitter, but I usually do (not this time, though). Like Svartling said, it's good for driving people to the discussion, but also to let the author know you've posted something (in case they don't get e-mail notifications or aren't checking their mail for some reason, but are checking tweets).

But it would be great if you could somehow reply from SimplyTweet (or any other Twitter app) and have it show up as a comment on the appropriate Posterous discussion, too. Now THAT would be killer! :)

@simplygrey I've asked the developer for that feature I while ago but he Said that its Posterous that won't allow that. Maybe they have changed their mind now, I don't know, but if more users ask the same question maybe we can have that feature?
